This Privacy Policy explains how TechEd Shield (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information about you when you visit techedshield.com or use our tools and resources (together, the “Service”). It should be read alongside our Terms and Conditions.
1.Who We Are
TechEd Shield is an educational website that helps small businesses understand and prepare for cyber insurance. We are not an insurance agency, broker, or carrier, and we do not provide insurance, legal, or financial advice (see Section 6 of our Terms and Conditions).
The Service is operated by TechEd Publishers (trading as TechEd Shield), which is the party responsible for your personal information under this policy.
2.Scope of This Policy
This policy applies to information we collect through techedshield.com, our Readiness Check and quiz tools, our contact form, and our email communications. It does not apply to third-party websites, including the websites of insurance carriers, brokers, or other providers you may reach through links on our site. Those parties have their own privacy policies.
3.Information We Collect
Information you give us
| Where | What we collect |
| Contact form | First and last name, email address, and the content of your message. |
| Free Readiness Check and quiz | Your first name, email address, your answers to the questions (for example, whether your business uses multi-factor authentication, backups, or employee training), insurance stage, priority gap areas, your marketing choice (ticked or not), the date and time, the page you used, and the version of the consent wording you saw and the resulting score or rating. |
| Newsletter and guide downloads | Email address and, where requested, first name. |
| Blog comments | Name, email address, and comment content. |
Please do not submit sensitive information through our forms or tools, such as passwords, account numbers, policy numbers, details of an active security incident, or information about identifiable clients or employees. Our tools do not need this information to work.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, we and our service providers may automatically collect technical information such as your browser type, device type, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. This is collected through server logs, cookies, and similar technologies (see Section 7).
Information from third parties
Referral and affiliate partners may tell us that a visit or sign-up originated from our site so that we can be credited. This reporting is generally aggregated or tied to a tracking reference rather than to your name or contact details.
4.How We Use Your Information
- To respond to your messages and questions.
- To deliver your Readiness Check or quiz results and the follow-up educational emails related to them.
- To send newsletters, guides, and updates you have signed up for.
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the site and our content, including understanding which articles and tools are most useful.
- To track referral and affiliate activity so we can be credited by partners.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms and Conditions.
- To email you a one-time copy of your Readiness Check results.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.
5.Your Readiness Check and Quiz Answers
Because our tools ask about your business’s security practices, we want to be especially clear about how those answers are handled.
- Why we collect them: to calculate your result and to send you educational content matched to it. For example, a business that indicates it does not yet use multi-factor authentication may receive guidance on that topic.
- Who processes them: your name, email address and answers are stored in Google Workspace (Sheets, Apps Script and Gmail), which we use on our behalf to deliver your results and send your results email. If you ticked the optional box, they may also be used to send you tips and updates. If you retake the check, we keep each attempt as history but maintain one contact record per email address.
- Not shared with insurers: we do not sell, rent, or disclose your answers or results to insurance carriers, brokers, MGAs, or any party that makes underwriting, pricing, or claims decisions.
- Not an underwriting record: your results are educational only. They are not an insurance application, and they are not submitted to anyone on your behalf.
- Aggregated insights: we may use combined, de-identified results (for example, “a majority of respondents report having backups”) to improve our content. These statistics do not identify you or your business.
6.Legal Bases for Processing
Where data protection laws require a legal basis for processing, such as in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on:
- Consent: for newsletter and tips emails, only if you tick the optional box, and for optional cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Performance of a request: to respond to your enquiries and deliver the results or resources you asked for, including showing your Readiness Check results and emailing you a copy.
- Legitimate interests: to operate, secure, and improve the site and to understand how it is used, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation: where we must process information to comply with the law.
7.Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:
- Essential cookies needed for the site to function and stay secure.
- Analytics cookies to understand how visitors use the site.
- Referral and affiliate cookies placed by partners when you click certain links, so we can be credited if you request a quote or sign up.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and most browsers let you block cookies from particular sites or from third parties. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site work. Analytics and referral cookies help us understand how the site is used and credit referral partners; if you prefer not to be tracked in this way, you can block them in your browser settings or use a browser or extension that limits tracking.
8.Email Communications
If you complete the Readiness Check, we will email you a copy of your results. If you ticked the optional box, we will also send you tips and updates; those emails include an unsubscribe link and you can opt out at any time. You can ask us to stop at any time by replying to any email.
9.How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers who help us run the site and communicate with you, under contractual obligations to protect your information and use it only on our behalf. These include our website platform and hosting provider (WordPress, hosted by Hostinger), our email platform Google (Sheets, Apps Script and Gmail) and our newsletter provider, which we’ll name here once chosen. TechEd Publishers operates TechEd Shield and sends the emails
- Legal and safety reasons, where required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TechEd Shield, our users, or others.
- Business transfers, in connection with a merger, sale, or transfer of the site or its assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
- With your consent, or at your direction.
We do not pass your name, email, or Readiness Check answers to insurance carriers, brokers, or referral partners.
10.Third-Party Links and Referral Partners
Our site links to third-party websites, including insurance carriers, brokers, quote marketplaces, compliance platforms, and security-tool providers. Some of these are referral or affiliate links (see Section 8 of our Terms and Conditions).
If you click one of these links and then provide information on the third party’s website, such as when requesting an insurance quote, that information goes directly to the third party and is governed by its own privacy policy, not ours. We encourage you to review those policies before submitting any information.
11.Data Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy:
- Marketing subscribers: while subscribed, plus up to 3 years after last activity.
- Quiz data from people who didn’t tick the box: 24 months.
- Consent and unsubscribe records: up to 6 years.
- Contact form messages: as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable period afterwards for reference.
- Analytics and log data: according to the retention settings of the relevant provider.
You can ask us to delete your information sooner (see Section 14).
12.Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, access controls, and reputable service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where required by law.
13.International Data Transfers
We and our service providers may process information in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.
14.Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- To access the information we hold about you and receive a copy.
- To correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- To delete your information.
- To object to or restrict certain processing.
- To data portability.
- To withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
- To opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. As noted above, we do not sell or share personal information in this way.
- To lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 17. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. You may also use an authorized agent where local law permits.
15.Children’s Privacy
The Service is intended for business owners and professionals. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
16.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, may provide additional notice such as an email to subscribers. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
17.Contact Us
